I
want to encourage all of you to attend my upcoming show at Iveta. (See the
announcement at the end of this post). Most of my recent shows featured smaller
work, but this will be a rare chance to exhibit the larger figure paintings
I’ve been working on these past few years. Iveta is a great venue. I hope to
see you there on Friday, March 7
at the opening reception.

This
month I want to present a set of mixed-media figure drawings on the blog.
They’re not on-the-spot contour drawings, and though the poses come from
life-drawing sessions, the drawings shown here are reconsiderations done from
photos and/or sketches from the model. They took many hours to complete,
and the majority of them were reworked over several days. This kind of work is
the opposite of spontaneous. Instead, it resembles the slow-build process that
occurs in a large-format oil painting, with additions and subtractions pulling the image to its mark.
